The NAPB-APBA International Borlaug Scholarship Program strengthens the pan-African plant breeding community by identifying and supporting exceptional graduate student plant breeders across Africa. A joint initiative of the U.S. National Association of Plant Breeders (NAPB) and the African Plant Breeders Association (APBA), the program pairs each Scholar with world-class mentors from both organizations to provide guidance and support in their professional development. The two-year program also includes funding for travel, lodging, and registration to attend the APBA Conference- most recently held in 2025 in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe- as well as the NAPB Annual Meeting (held in 2026 in College Station, Texas). By fostering deep mentorship and cross-continental collaboration, the program cultivates future plant breeding leaders poised to advance and transform African agriculture.
